Heidi Montag Feminist Hero! MTV The Hills Premiere v. Gloria Steinem

Heidi Montag is the next Gloria Steinem? The world has officially come to an end, or at least tonight on the season premiere of MTV’s hit sort-of-reality show, THE HILLS.
Today, the New York Times actually called Heidi Montag (drumroll). ….. “a kind of feminist hero”.
Sorry, did you just choke on your food also?
That’s the funniest thing I’ve heard about Heidi Montag in a longtime.
I’m looking at the above picture of Spencer Pratt carrying Heidi in a string bikini in his arms. Now that’s a feminist hero if you ever saw one.
Says the Times:
“Defying our expectations, Heidi has emerged as a kind of feminist hero this season, climbing her way to a bigger position at the event-planning company where she orchestrates Nascar parties, and refusing to acquiesce to the demands of her fiancé, Spencer, that she get herself home on time. Her career-mindedness sets their relationship off course. Heidi identifies the problem with no name: a boyfriend who sits around an apartment decorated to look like an ’80s video arcade while trying to deny Heidi a real wedding with the glory of registering. Her groundswell of self-assertion begins when he insists on eloping, prompting Heidi to declare, “This isn’t, like, Spencer’s relationship and you decide what we do.”
Defying their expectations? When Heidi Montag becomes a feminist hero, anytime in the new season of the Hills, it will defy EVERYONE’s expectations. Probably also Gloria Steinem’s.
